Risk Of Rain 2 Review

Image result for risk of rain 2

Risk of Rain, while not near my most played game has been up there with my favorites, the art is good, the game is addicting, and the music was perfection, so when I saw a squeal in 3-d I was a bit skeptical if they could pull it off. All the alpha footage seem’d like an ugly cluster. In RoR there where only 2 directions where enemies could come from left or right, but when they could be coming from anywhere it would be a lot harder to manage. Somehow though they did it, RoR2 is full of the same action packed difficulty of the first. The cluster of enemies has been remedied my by getting rid of the fact that you have to kill all of the enemies at the end of the level and making most of the character have good mobility. The music i’d say is average which I wish they used the old music as place holder. The worst thing i can say about the game is that it doesn’t have enough content, which they are going to fix because its still in beta.

So lets talk about the game itself and not its predecessor. The way you play is you find a teleporter on the map you spawn in on. you activate the teleporter to spawn a boss, kill it and charge the teleporter to go to the next map, kill monsters for gold to buy chests and get items and get stronger. The game is simple yet fun and challenging with how strong the enemies are, monsoon (the highest difficulty) makes you be able to die and almost any moment so you have to be on your toes. there is no end to the game as after you finish 4 levels you get sent back to the start with all the enemies there.

The character choice dosen’t matter too much but you can choose 1 of 6 playable character (after you unlock the other 5) but i feel like most aren’t different enough, commando, the starting character, feels just like a worse huntress. Engineer is booring and his turrets do most of the work. artificer, my favorite character, is weak as her basic attacks are essentially capped with attack speed and her flame thrower slows her down and she becomes a sitting duck in a game all about movement. and my favorite character from RoR1 sadly isn’t in the game (yet?).

The game is fun, short and simple, i couldn’t recommend this purchase enough I’ve already logged 47 hours and had a blast with my friends. most of the issues with the game such as minor bugs or more content are in the works. i can tell RoR2 will be one of the best games released in 2019.

Smite 6.3

First off, the skins.

I really like the deep sea skins for Scylla and Nox, its something I hope they do more of. DID. SOMEONE. SAY. MORE. NEITH. SKINS?!?! CUZ I DIDDN’T! yeah, we don’t need more but that wont stop them from adding more. The Thanatos gender bend one is pretty  neat-o, im not to sure how i’d feel about more of those of other skins. I really like cu chulainn’s base skin so the werewolf one is a bit disappointing, but hey, its not bad.

alright, lets get down to b̶u̶s̶i̶n̶e̶s̶s̶,̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶d̶e̶f̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶H̶u̶n̶s̶ the meat and bones of the update. I’m so pumped for duo que ranked conquest because I want to play ranked but I don’t want to alone.

I loved the old assault map ans am a bit weary about how the new one will look, especially layout. I wonder if it will still be a line? or will it be in like segments? also something I don’t want to make a new paragraph about is some of the quality of life conquest changes. they’re nice.

god balance. thank god for the nref on bacchus’s damage, it was too much and probably still is. considering that bakasura is my favorite jungle, im a bit sad about the nerf but also kind of like it. I don’t think baka should have CC immunity in the first place as you already build beads and magi’s cloak. With the cone auto attacks the time reduction makes sense, with hastened you already have the ability to stick to people easily. there was a nerf to fenrir making one of my least favorite jungles to play against more bearable. a minor but effective buff to another jungler that I like boosted hun batz’s clear. hun is fun but never was good enough to play, I hope the buff Kali in a similar way. I don’t care too much about king Arthur nerf but at least my friend who mains solo will stop complaining. Vamana post buff was way to strong and I’m glad they are bringing him down a peg.

overall a good update, and I cant wait to play. i would buy the Scylla skin because i really like her, but i need that money for borderlands 3 so i don’t think I’m getting it.

Smite 6.2 Jormungandr

Jormungandr:

I really like Jorm, he’s unique and at a good balance point. However, as a support main I’m a little disappointed as he’s listed as a guardian but feels more like an up close mage or solo. when I played him he was very strong early game, then fell off in mid game and I can only think it’s because I didn’t build any damage which is why I feel like he’d be better in solo lane.

Skins:

Dear god another Neith skin, why? she already has 12 (excluding the base, recolor, and mastery skins) she doesn’t need more. The king Arthur one is pretty good, but I’m not a big fan of the edgy ones. Dragon Prince Ne Zha is really cool, if I played him I’d probably pay for it. The Ah Puch skin is alright, but I feel that it doesn’t fit I’m and the design is too complex.

Item and god Balance:

Most of the balance changes are small so this will be quick. The speed pot buff was welcome, it was a tad overpriced and the speed buff is nice. I feel that the Cu Chulaiann buff was bad, it didn’t fix the problem, Cu Chulaiann is a multi layered cake of issues and some stat increases wont help. I feel like rage gained from abilities should scale with skill level so you can get the rage off of attacking the enemy gods, as currently the best way to build it up is to farm it off minions which doesn’t help late game, meaning that the best way to build rage is to build attack speed, however Cu Chulaiann is focused on ability burst. i think the two ways to fix this is to 1) make rage gained from abilities scale with skill level like i mentioned earlier or 2) increase his AA damage when he transforms. option 1 would either make his ability burst focus stronger, option 2 would make him AA focused fit better

That’s all that there was in this patch notes, there were a ton of small number changes that i didn’t mention because they were practically nothing.

For Honor, Three Years Later.

Image result for for honor       First of all, why am I doing this review? short answer because most reviews are outdated. the game has changed a lot since its bad release, so I’m going to do a review about it ignoring the rocky start.

So, whats changed? Simply put, they fixed whats wrong, there have been character balances, and much needed new content. The game mostly suffered from the peer to peer servers which caused lag as well as disconnecting everyone if the host rage quit but the game now. Another thing that plagued was low content, there were few maps a decent amount of champions and only a few game modes. Again all improved, they make new maps and characters frequently, the only area where I’m disappointed is game modes, there’s only been one and while its great I wish there was more. ill get into that more later.

The fighters are the most fun thing about the game. Every character is unique, and while my feelings aren’t universal, even the most aggravating characters feel like I need more practice with and I could fight them just fine, it feels like its my fault for dying rather than it being cheap. That’s not to say all the characters are perfectly balanced (as all things should be) there are several characters that have attacks the feel unfair like shamans bite which, in my opinion, does too much damage based of the fact on how easy it is to land and the fact that it also heals. But I digress the characters are chalk full of fun abilities and with the balance updates every character is at least somewhat capable without removing what makes them fun and unique. Every character is split into one of four groups Vanguards the all rounders, Assassins with low health high damage and poor deference, heavy’s with high health slow attacks and high damage, and hybrids having characteristic of 2 of the classes. some unique things are assassins take longer to block, so they cant shred everyone with there quick high damage attacks. but without the ability to block or parry they would be really bad, so to make up for it they added in deflects to all assassins. a deflect is basically a better harder to pull off and less consistent parry, allowing them to still do what they lack but having it be loads harder. All heavy’s have some form of ability to stop there opponent like throwing them on there ground, breaking there back, or flipping them at the right moment. vanguards have to rely on there combos and skills to take down there enemies.

Now we will be talking about pros and cons. I’ve always liked melee combat in any video game, however it’s never felt like you’re actually wielding a weapon as it usually was just left click to damage or in more in depth game you can block (oooo, how cool). however, in for honor, the focus of combat is in melee weapons and not guns which allows them to fully flesh out its combat. for honors combat system has and always will be its coolest feat. Like I said the maps were pretty lackluster in amount however, all of the maps were still good, and all they’ve done is add more quality stuff. all the maps are cool that feel lived in and like they have history they look and feel cool to play in. The characters are a positive point but I mentioned it all prior. The negatives are there despite the positives. my biggest issue is the lack of game modes there are 6 game modes in the game but it felt like 2 until they added breach. there is duel, a one on one fight, brawl a two on two fight (that has unspoken honor codes that makes it feel like longer duel) dominion, the most popular one which is a 4 on 4 objective mode, then there 2 game modes that are dead and it takes you like, 10 ish minutes to get into a match. breach is an interesting alive that was added, its a long form 4v4 payload that has very interesting objectives. this being said its very annoying that there are only 3 different ways to play. I mentioned balance earlier and yeah, its annoying there are very cheap feeling characters that you hate to play against and it can ruin the fun sometimes, and with how varied the system is there’s going to be at least one thing that gets under your skin.

A word that’s been used a lot here is “unique” and that’s because its the best way to describe it. even people who hate it agree with the statement that its very different from anything before.

Most criticisms with the game at the time of release was squandered potential and those were good criticisms, but with all of the love and attention given by the devs and community I don’t think that applies anymore. I would have made a rating of 3-4/10 3 years ago but now I would give it a 7-8/10 its a fun game that will challenge your skills and test your patience. Its still a living game that gets attention and it living for this long with such a bad start can only mean there’s something at it’s core which is that potential that’s been tapped into over those 3 years.

Smite patch notes 5.24 King Arthur

When king Arthur was released I was afraid that he was going to be really broken. he has 8 damaging abilities and he seemed to be really bloated. He has high damage, damage Mitigation, a cripple, a slow, a knock up, protection shreds, and percentage damage in his ult, and 8 ways to do damage. so is he broken?

in MY experience, he’s actually been surprisingly fine. I’ve only played a couple games with him and I don’t play solo so it hasn’t been 1v1, but I’ve seen other people defeat him without much struggle and I’ve been able to help the solo win when I play jng. I think his numbers are fine, and I may need more experience with the guy but I think he’s fine as he is right now.

now on the the par we always have to get through, the skins. Glacial gaze medusa and  Brimstone Cerberus are freckin heckin amazing. Cosmic Conqueror Hercules and Dragon Keeper Discordia are ok, not my style but the look cool. Oh God Blight Guardian Athena is soooo edgy and I hate it, bad skin and doesn’t fit Athena.

the only buff I care about is Arachne, I like the buff to the ult because it encourages it to be used offensively rather than a get out of jail free card which the old ult made her aggravating to fight against because if you outplay and beat her she can just ult and get away even if you should’ve won the fight. The Xing Tian buff was alright but I don’t think it’ll push him into the meta.

season 6 is going to be starting up soon and its bizarre to think that I started at the beginning of season 5, I hope season 6 will be a good one. Despite all the annoyance I’ve thoroughly enjoined playing this game

Smite patch 5.21

Greetings friends! Today we’ll be discussing smite patch 5.21, while the last couple of patches had very little brought to the table this one has a lot of changes.

as always (just like in the patch notes) lest start with the skins. All the skins are amazing this time, since I’ve started playing they’ve improved on the skins. I especially like the Pele Khepri and Cu Chulainn skins. Although I really don’t like the khepri skins VP.

In the god balance section they changed Cernunnos ult to now slow by 20%. I wouldn’t call it a buff because he didn’t really need it, and I think it was just for consistency with Hera’s poly morph doing the same. On a quick side note about consistency and Hera I wish that her poly would change you into a set animal like Cernunnos’ ult dose. I think that the multiple creatures will confuse players and having one set Animal will open opportunities for interesting skins. Side rant over. Erlang got his passive nerfed so he wont shred tanks instantly. I’m surprised they haven’t done this sooner he’s been dominating recently. Fenrir got mana reductions so he wont be too limited early on, I think this is good but fear it might make him a very heavy early game dominator. The last balance issue I’m going to cover is the Mercury “nerf”. All they did was Reduced his Power charged per passive stack from 0.1 to 0.08 this doesn’t effect his ridiculous clear and even if it nerfs his quick damage output he will still be top tier due to the fact the he’ll be able to instantly clear camps.

The new domination adventure is a lot of fun, but in most games I get a very experienced player why played domination before it was removed and gets angry at us for not knowing how to play it. I imagine that as I get experienced the toxicity will decrease. Overall Its fun but not my favorite, but ill still grind it for rewards because I don’t have a life.

I watched the SPL and it was a lot of fun and interesting to watch game at the highest level. All I got out of the mixer chests was favor though. shout out to Pete for doing so great, but it sucks that I missed weakens and Luminosities match.

Finally I’m going to say something non smite related. Today is veterans day and even though no veterans will read this I’m going to thank them for serving this country and allowing me to live my life in this great country. Another thing I want to say is rest in peace to Stan Lee, he was an amazing man who fought against bigotry, entertained millions, and created a diverse universe of interesting characters. Even though I’m not a big marvel fan I need to give props to this legend I hope he rests easy. Have a good day everyone.

Bad opinions on 5.20

Another, very small patch. It basically took two patches to release Herra. the only things this patch was bug fixes and Herra balancing. they made her passive reduce her shield by .33 seconds, made the shield tankier, and her poly now slows, and Argus “” the defender got several buffs to make him not useless. with these changes I think she’ll be more of a solo mage. she’s pretty tanky with her shield and now Argus can help her push tower.

the reason why there are so few changes is because patch 5.20 is the patch that the SPL will be playing on, so they don’t want to make things to different from what the pro’s are use to. which is perfectly understandable.

that’s all other than skins, and My God I Want The puppy KuKu Skin. other than that the Terra skin is alright, and I don’t want the others.

Look at this good boy

well, see y’all for the next patch in patch 5.21 i think?

Opinions on 5.18 & 5.19 patch notes

both in 5.18 & 5.19 had very small but important changes. The only big thing in .19 is hera. So, let’s dive into deeper detail, eh?

5.18

Image result for smite 5.18

skins are alright, only one I think is worth the buy though is Oni Chernobog. In the item department there was small buff’s and nerf. I’m curious why they nerfed the masks, i’ve never seen them used before. I’m glad to see ganesha’s buff to his ult, as late game it posed no threat and was basically just a slow. Pele’s ult changes will make her a lot better, in my level of play I don’t see her that often which is weird because she seems very good. That’s basically it, on to 5.19

5.19

lets save the best for last and start off with the skins. All the skins this patch are really cool, I especially like the shadow Bakasura and Godscylla. I hope they make more of the shadow skins as both ah puch and Bakasura are very well made, and not overly edgy. In the god buff senario, there’s basically nothing. AND ON TO THE NEW GODDESS!

she’s alright. But really though, she’s nothing special. Her abilities are very delayed and hard to hit, not only that but they don’t do much damage. Her only good ability is her ult and Argus is very squishy. I feel like her kit is made to spam Argus, but he dies so quickly and her other abilities just suck. If she gets buffed she might be fun, but at this point, she’s just weak with slow attacks an no pressure.

Have a good day everyone, lets hope next god is note worthy.

5.17 patch notes opinions (aka, why hi-rez>)

Hey guys, time for my uninformed opinions on patch 5.17 or at least the things that stick out as important. Let’s start thing off with a cool but uncool skin. and then cover the items. I have one thing to say to most of the patch. Thanks, I hate it.

General Nosseris:

Image result for general nosseris

I never realized people could be this greedy. That was until Hi-rez made a really cool skin that has a 1/590% chance to drop on a fresh install. Now I realize that hi-rez really wants the wales money. Now I try to not get my hopes up for cool skins. Seriously though it’s a great skin and it’s basically impossible for newer players to get, I just hope it gets moved to a different chest.

Golden Balde:

GoldenBlade T3.png

When this was announced I thought it was going to be overpowered, I had heard horror stories of golden bow. however now that its been released I dont think its as bad as I thought it was going to be and just seems to be a big issue with merc (keep in mind that i’m in a casual setting and have no clue how this affects competitive level play). This seems to be what they should have in S3. I think it’ll need some minor teeking at most is needed.

Heartseeker:

Heartseeker T3.png

sometimes I wonder what hi-rez is thinking. It was a bad with heart seeker, and basically everyone knows it. I find it funny because soul reaver was changed because it was unpredictable and not fun to fight against, and this is very similar to old soul reaver. I guess since it’s more predictable it’s fine? I don’t understand hi-rez. I’ll always love this game and have to put up with it.

conclusion:

this patch aint the greatest. I over exaggerated but they still made some big mistakes. Is the game ruined? No, it’s not even unplayable but the heart seeker and General Nosseris skin piss me off and I just hope they don’t do anything like it again. have a nice day everyone, see y’all next patch.

Welcome

Hey, i’m a big smite fan even though i started near the end of season 4. here i plan on discussing my opinions that are likely misinformed and bad on upcoming updates and gods. I’ll make a new post on patch 5.17 as soon as those patch notes are released. I don’t know why you’re still reading this, but have a good rest of your day.
